Know Your Dream Company

"Strategy has no value if your culture and leadership mindset are wrong"

As part of SPJIMR’s unique pedagogy, a new initiative has been conceived under the Organizational Behaviour II course for the first year students of the PGDM program. This segment of the Organisational Behaviour Capsule entails studying various organisational cultures and structures and each student eventually identifying a suitable culture which is a personal best fit.

The Two-Pronged Macro Purpose:

With this course innovation, two purposes will be served on a global level. Not only will students get a clear focus and aspiration – reality check, they will also be better equipped to handle professional life post-MBA, as the mentorship program will be designed to train the students for their dream jobs.

Intended Final Outcome – Achieving significant improvement in person-organization fit.

Micro Objectives of the Course - The course aims to deliver the theoretical framework of Organizational Behaviour by following a class discussion and case writing methodology.

Intended Final Outcome – Achieving significant improvement in person-organization fit.

Skills that will be honed -
  1. ANALYTICAL SKILLS

Analytical Skills will be developed in the course of preparation for the Case study that students will prepare as deliverable of the course. In the Case study, students are expected to work in common aspirant groups to identify the various parameters of their dream company as per the 7S framework.

The tasks that are focused at Analytical Skill Development are:

  • Evaluate using secondary research the structure and systems of the chosen Company and compare it with other companies in the same sector.
  • Study the differences and analyse why their dream company follows a particular policy structure when its competitors do not.
  • Read between the policy framework and identify the philosophy of the company studied.
  1. CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Critical thinking is expected to be enhanced by the following tasks:

  • Before commencing secondary research, Students will have to list out their reasoning behind why the particular company has been chosen as their dream company, what their perception is about the company culture.
  • After obtaining the secondary research data, critically analyze facts versus perception and identify mismatch.
  • Analyze whether the chosen company needs to be modified and another iteration needs to be made.
  • Seek out evidence to support your choice of company.
  • Interpersonal and Perceptual Skills

While working in groups that share a common objective and passion, students will develop team building skills and a proactive approach. The planned field visit to the company office will also improve their professional communication and observation skills. Apart from that, the course aims to develop an internal motivation for professional career among the students.

Perceptual skills will be enhanced when the gap analysis between perceived 7S framework of their dream company and what actually exists. This will also improve decision making ability.

Looking forward towards further development of the course.
